The word “grimoire” is related to the word “grammar”, which pertains to the rules and relationships of language. Derived from the Middle English gramer, the root of the word is an aleration of the Latin gramaire, which we can trace back to its source from the Greek feminine of grammatikos, meaning “of letters”. It seems appropriate that this feminine derivative from the language of one of the earliest classical pantheistic civilizations has evolved to describe what is now considered by many witches to be a sacred text devoted to rituals honoring the Mother Goddess.

Most grimoires are a witch’s personal handwritten book containing their thoughts, spells, rituals, correspondences, and anything else they wish to include. My personal handwritten book was stolen and never returned so I decided it was time to make some of it a bit more public. This section of The DreamKeep is my personal grimoire, which I have chosen to share. Anything too personal, I am keeping close to my heart.

Tell me about your research…

When I was in high school I met a young woman who said she was a “witch”. When I asked her about it she began to explain Paganism to me as an Earth and Goddess based religion. Oh, there was a lot more to the explanation, and from what she told me, I was very intrigued.

My parents never pushed religion on us kids as we were growing up; they gave us the choice to explore the various religions and choose what we could believe in. I would go to various churches with friends from school, explore the different denominations, but never found anything that touched my soul – until I learned about Paganism.

It was during my first year of research that I had come to find something I could believe in – something that had been since long before Christ. It was after that year that I started to walk the Wiccan path and have been pretty much ever since. I say “pretty much ever since” because there have been a couple time in my life when I have let others – Christians – influence my path. In those times my life has gone to shit and fallen apart, opening my eyes to the fact that it was not meant for me. As soon as I got back on the Wiccan path and rededicated my life to the Goddess and the Wiccan Way my life got good again… A bit of re-affirmation that I was meant to follow the Wiccan path. I don’t know of any other way to explain it.

I have been researching Paganism and Wicca for over 30 years and walking the path for at least 25 of those years. I will never again stray from my Goddess or my path. A lot of what I have collected over the last 30+ years I have lost track of the source of the information. Where I have the source, I have indicated such. There is so much information to present. I have broken it down into the following Books, if you will:

Book of Memory – Histories, Stories, Legends and Memories of Wicca and Paganism.
Book of Foundation – Just as you cannot build a lasting home without a good foundation, you cannot learn a new subject without some basic knowledge.
Book of Pantheons – Many cultures in ancient times had their own Gods and Goddesses. Many of the are featured here.
